The Pajama Game opened at the St. James Theatre in New York on May 13, 1954 to great reviews. It ran for 1,063 performances, becoming only the eighth musical in Broadway history to run over 1,000 performances. It received several Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Choreography – Bob Fosse. The 2006 New York revival stars Harry Connick Jnr. as Sid. Betty Pounder directed the first Australian production for J.C Williamson’s. Tikki Taylor, Frank Sheldon and Toni Lamond s tarred in the production which opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre in 1957.

The Production Company’s revival of this great Broadway Classic in 2006 starred Ian Stenlake (Oklahoma!, Cabaret, Stingers) as Sid, Pippa Grandison (We Will Rock You) as Babe and Rachael Beck (Singin’in the Rain) as Gladys.

Sparks fly when employees of the Sleep Tite Pajama Factory want a whopping seven-and-a half cent an hour pay increase and won’t take no for an answer. Babe Williams is the feisty leader of the union grievance committee and she may have found her match in shop superintendent, Sid Sorokin. Their stormy relationship comes to a head and sets off not only a conflict between management and staff, but a battle of the sexes as well.

Bright and brassy, this unconventional, fastpaced Broadway classic is brimming with songs and dances which have become popular, musical theatre standards. They include "Hey, There", "Hernando’s Hideaway" and "Steam Heat".
